Rented me a boat for the weekend and I'm gonna take the boy out to Braunig. I'm gonna look for some reds, stripers, and cats. Hopefully I'll start figuring out the lake. Wish me luck!!
Good luck and have fun. Make sure to take your camera with you so that you can share them with us. Hope to see you at our next meeting.
A few good places at Braunig are the Dead Tree Point, and on the southern end of the plant....
I hope you had some luck at Braunig. Let us know how it went.
Any pictures of your catches you may want to share with us? If so, you can post them in the member pictures threat.
skunked, skunked, and skunked. At least my son had fun steering the boat, so it was still worth it. I plan on renting a boat again and heading out to calaveras friday or sat, or both. I've got to get my game face on so lil man doesnt begin losing interest in fishing!
roddie: Sorry to hear 'bout your fishin' trip
As you mentioned "At least my son had fun steering the boat"
That there in-itself means "ALOT"...

<;({})><I too am sorry to hear that you got skunked. But your son had fun, and that's what it is all about. Calaveras is a bit better for fishing then Braunig. I know a few good spots for cats and reds. Just go past the bridge and to a spot where there is a split in the lake. Drop anchor and start fishing. As James said, we have our meeting on Saturday at Bass Pro Shops. Maybe you'll be able to join us. Let me know if you have any other questions. Here's my phone number, if you want to get in touch with me: (210)843-4435
Thanks Kai, I plan to be at the meeting. If it's okay, I have a buddy that's coming down to visit from Austin who may tag along. I guess my first stop will at that split in the lake. Is there a point I should be fishing off, or just out deep where it splits?
Roddie,
you can bring who you like, and as many as you like. Everybody is welcome! I sure am looking forward meeting you.
About Calaveras, you will see the split once you have the bridge behind you. Go to the left shore line off the left arm. Fish close to the shore, about 100 - 150 feet and do a fan layout, towards the shore and towards the channel. I use nightcrawlers and chicken livers. Try both, on the bottomm and under a float. You will see them boiling once the sun starts going down.
Good luck and let me know if you have any other questions.
if you guys will start working on a get together in the spring, april or may, for a day or two i will bring a friend of mine who taught me how to catch cats at calaveras and we will show yall how to catch lots of cats. they will not be big, as i have not caught many over 2#s there, but can fill up the ice chest with 1-1/2lb. fish. i am working on learning how to catch the reds over there.
