I guess that the best time I had fishing was about ten years ago. Four of us went to the coast the day after Christmas. We started of at Ingleside and fished in the channel for trout. I snagged two, but never landed then. The worst was a trout that had to be about 30 inches. He jumped about three times and on the third time he spit out the hook which went between me and one of my friends. After that we went to Redfish Bay. As two of my friends went to grab for crab claws, I was waist deep it freezing water waiting for a bite. After about 20 minutes, I was ready to gather my gear and head back to the van. When I started to reel in my line, it felt like I had snaged onto a log. But, the more line I brought in, the more it started to fight. After what seemed like foever, I finally had my hands on a redfish that measured 27 1/2 in.. So, after having no luck at all of getting any trout, I did manage to show up with the prize of the day.
my best catfishing trip was at calaveras lake about 8yrs ago when it rained the whole time i was there i from friday through sunday non stop i came home with 35 catfish. one 4 pound carp.
Thanks to both of you for sharing stories. Keep 'em coming y'all!

I had similar occurrence like that, I had taken my 6 yr old son fishing to a lake I had never been too, about as far as San Antonio is to me (80 miles) only north of Austin.
My son eagerly got out his pole and I went to rig it and found that I had forgotten to load the tackle box...DUUUUHHHH
I felt so horrible (How do you explain to a child that old a problem like that), and luckily another dad was arriving at the same time with his son of about the same age, I explained our delima and he loaned us some tackle and the four of us had a great day of perch jerking.
FRIDAY 05-01-09 MY SON AND HIS GIRLFRIEND BOUGHT A TEN PERSON TENT FOR THEM BUT THEY COULD NOT WAIT TO SET IT UP. SO THEY SET IT UP AT HIS GIRLFRIENDS HOUSE BACKYARD AND THERE SPENDING THE WKEND IN IT. BUT ITS REALLY FOR MOTHERS DAY WKEND. AT A RESERVED SITE AT BRAUNIG LAKE WITH HER PARENTS.
Speaking of tents, I think I'm gonna get one real soon so my son and I can do some of that....especially lay out some trot lines and fish fry in the evening.
wal mart has some real good ones. and right now the wal mart on austin hwy. is re-arranging there store and thats when they have stuff at 1/2 price i know i have gotten a coffee maker coleman thats 39.95 for 20.00 my tent that cost 60.00 for 35.00 and other fishing gear.
