By the way, anyone who likes to saltwater fish should check out, double-d-extremetackle.com for some hellaciously great rigs! Excellent quality, extremely durable, and well made. Great prices too! They are made in Kingwood Texas. I have purchased a few, and am more than happy with them!

The way I'm hearing it, is we'll get a fair amount of rain along with 40-50 mile an hour winds......We're still on the dry side of this one, like Gustav. But we should see some rain, I hope. We need it sooooo badly! I'm binging in the trash cans and the chairs from outside along with the light plants....just in case !

TDY can be a pain sometimes....They stock Miller's Pond with rainbow trout and some catfish every year. Smoked trout is great, baked and broiled is good too! I keep a few, just the larger once in a while to eat. But it is fun to see the reaction from the kids in the area ! Good luck in S. C., I hear there's good catfish and whatnot there.....

Salas Park is private property at the end of Nelson Rd. Go up Pearsall Rd from 410 towards the bridge. Turn right onto Nelson Rd., follow until you have to go across the tracks. Keep going and it takes you right into it. The Medina River runs throug it. They charge by the carload. $10 will cover up to 5 people. They have some tables and hibachis along the right as you go in. They have cleaned it up nicely during the last year or so....I used hot dogs as bait.....the cheaper the better! Good luck

I don't know about that one, Jesse. I was over at the Salas Park off of Nelson rd yesterday afternoon, within 5 minutes I pulled in a 4 1/2 pound catfish....nest was a 3 pounder. Not bad for this area. I plan on going over to Miller's Pond over the weekend, so I'll let you know just how big some of them are there. Also, along with the rainbow trout that is stocked every year.........

Hey Roddie, good to hear from you. On 1604, it is the bridge that goes over Medina river. You can access it from either the left, which is safer, as you head to 90. You can pull over on the right hand side, but your vehicle is exposed more to traffic than the left, which has a larger "off the road" area. I guess it all depends from the direction you are coming from.... If you come up 90 west, you will turn to the left and pass the Dominguez Unit. About 1 mile from there, as you go over the bridge, the parking space is on your right. Be careful as it comes up quickly, you can always turn arond ad go back. You still have to walk down the embankment, but it is safer than the other side.... Patience and good moving water be with you !

Thanks for the info Kai...I use the old hangman's knot normally, but have been trying the Palomar and it works very nicely ! Been watching "knot Wars" video on the NAFC website, very informative.

There's a few places for good size cats...on 1604 heading towards 90 from SW High School, on the last curve before you get to the Dominguez unit , on the left and also on Pearsal Rd. the bridge by the Knights Of Columbus....good sized and good eating !

May 21, 2008 by intexas2
Is this the area on the back side of Nelson Rd. where they carge you by the carload? If it is, they cleaned it all up. Some hibachis, tables, and they cleared out all the vegetation too! It's now up to 10 per car load and that covers up to 5 people in the car. I'm going there around the first of June......
Re: Still alive...barely
May 20, 2008 by intexas2
Miller's Pond also has some rainbow trout....the river authority stocks it every year with about 3,200 fingerlings for the last year or so.... You can also go to Salas Family Park off of Nelson Rd. $10 a carload up to 5 people. The Medina River runs through it, cats, trout....it's been cleaned up a lot. You can walk down to the river without all the heavy vegetation like before. Several spots with the hibachis and tables....open from 8 am until 8pm

Re: fluorocarbon knots
April 30, 2008 by intexas2
Thanks for the info...to be honest, I've been using a "hangman's knot" since I can remember for all my fishing needs... I wasn't sure if it would hold with the fluorocarbon... I'll give the "glue" a shot.
fluorocarbon knots
April 25, 2008 by intexas2
I am going to be using some fluorcarbon line on one of my rods. I haven't used the line before, so I am looking for suggestions as to which would be the best knot to use ?? Any info would be much appreciated, thanks !

Our Troops Lake day...Take a Trooper Fishin' Let them know how much we need and appreciate all the've done and been through for us. Combined with food, soda, iced tea...and us and family...what better way to show how much we really care for them and what they've been through to help ptotect us??? Even in some small way, we can help show them and all "service members" how they collectively have helped us and made most of us feel secure . Politics be damned, they are there when we need them to be, we need to be there when they need someone, even in a small way? Sometimes the little things speak volumes.....

James, and Roddy, I would never try and "work" any aspect of what all the soldiers have endured... we need to think and "keep it simple"..or, as my Drill put it, the " KISS Method"...keep it simple and stupid ??? Why not Military day??? Or Soldiers Lake Day ?? Something where it is not explicit, but subdued and implied without saying anything?...... It is a great project, we need to brainstorm somemore... Roddy, your input is essential in this endeavor..........

How about-----OUR HEROES ? They have no idea what they mean to us, they are the best and our future. I don't think they know just how important they are to us as a country and a people. They are us.....a combination of backgrounds and religions, all coming together for one mission...eventually world peace. I totally support them in all endeavors....... They are us, in good times and in tough times......................

Catch And Release Procol
April 13, 2008 by intexas2
I know the club is a "catch and release" club, but I do sometimes take fish home to eat... is that a violation of policy? I guess I didn't think fast enough to ask at the meeting. I do not catch and dump, I release or take home to eat, not hit the taxidermist..... If someone could set me right, I'd appreciate it....thanks, I just want to be clear about where I'm coming from.

I was stationed at Ft. Jackson for basic, back in the late 70's....nice post. Almost as nice as Ft. Sam... Welcome to San Antonio, it's a great place to be and an even greater place to fish! I am new to the chapter myself, and am looking forward to meeting everyone at the April 12th meeting at the Bass Pro Shop....hope to see you there

Re: Welcome new members
March 8, 2008 by intexas2
Thanks, I mean it ! It's nice to be able to meet and talk to others who enjoy the outdoors and like/love to fish. My theory is, even a bad day of fishing is better than a good day's work !! That's my story and I'm sticking to it !! I'm supposed to be retired, but my sister calls me retarded instead ! Can't pick your family I guess....looking forward to meeting the "gang" so to speak !

Hey "Wise1" how goes it? I would greatly appreciate a copy of the by-laws, it would help me quite a bit. intexastoo@aol.com I hope to see everyone at the April meet, just cannot make the Inks Lake meet...sorry. I just started a new job, and you know how it goes...low "man" on totem pole...thanks, I really do appreciate it.
